The making of an insider As a self-professed ‘retreat addict’, I've been travelling around the world to various yoga and/or fitness retreats for over 15 years. Craving the energy and balance gained from the retreat experience on a more continuous basis, I left my executive fundraising and marketing career to become a certified yoga teacher in 2014. Shortly after, I launched my wellness company, The Santosha Life (of which Retreat Insider is a part).
The Santosha Life is a wellness company that provides exceptional experiences for people to tap into the mind-body connection through yoga, mindfulness meditation, and retreats (AND....having a laugh and a good time doing it!) My half day and one day retreats in and around the Toronto area (Santosha Warrior One Day Retreats) provide a hit of fitness, yoga, meditation and learning for those peeps who can't afford the time for a full retreat (that was me for many, many many years!). For those with more time, I offer weekend, four day and week long retreats around the world. My main goal is to help people find a way to connect. YOGA STYLE Teachers can appear in many different places and at different times throughout your life. For me, a teacher is anyone who helps to guide me towards better self-awareness and learning. So, my philosophy as a yoga teacher is to provide guidance to people so that they can follow their own paths. If I am able to assist them with that journey, then I am grateful. I encourage people to find a yoga and meditation practice that inspires them. I don't believe that there are 'right or wrong' ways to practice or believe rigidly in any one type of yoga teaching or asana practice. I think we could all benefit from taking ourselves a little less seriously! (Laughing and smiling is encouraged). My teaching speciality is vinyasa flow, and my classes incorporate creative movements that strengthen and lengthen the body while staying connected to the breath. I also teach yin and restorative yoga, moving meditation and mindfulness. My classes include gentle hands-on adjustments and assists, inspirational music and a savasana massage. I tailor my classes to the students and pride myself on personalized attention. My philosophy is to provide the space for each student to connect with their mind, body and soul so they finish class feeling lighter and more grounded. I encourage students to push themselves to their personal limits, while not taking themselves too seriously. Helping others connect with themselves, is what helps me to stay grounded and inspired. I hope to see you on the mat, on retreat, or on the beach! xo Kathy Parsons, Founder, The Santosha Life More information on how I got started... |
